The Alaska Marine Highway for The New York Times

This summer I proposed a story for the Travel Section of the New York Times along the Marine Highway System that runs from Bellingham up through the Inside Passage of Alaska. Needless to say, this was one of the best assignments I have ever had. It's always fun to pitch a story and have it accepted, but it's even more fulfilling when it's a story like this one. The three days I spent on the ferry were spent roaming the boat, always meeting new people, and hearing remarkable stories, while floating through one of the most spectacular and remote areas of the world I have ever seen.
